I make quilts because it is the most natural way for me to get my creative impulses out into the world, as well as being an integral part of my spiritual practice. While most of my work is based on formal elements, I do have stories, feelings, and intentions that I weave into my work.
I make most design choices intuitively. I do turn on my left-brain for new technical challenges and then I listen to that wise little voice guide me through the process. I am very particular about color, and for the most part, I am a gatherer, using recycled garments, hand-dyes, and high-quality commercial fabrics.
I call my style of quilting—“quilting the hell out of it”—densely quilting almost the entire surface of each quilt. I love the wonderfully intricate quilted shapes that reveal other accidental shapes as the work is viewed from different angles. I also enjoy simple embroidery and use this to express ideas that have an organic or yin aspect to it.
