Laurie Brainerd began creating art quilts in 2005 after bridging an 18-year accounting career with being a life coach. With this coaching background, Laurie challenges the boundaries around her including “What is an art quilt?” She is especially interested in the textural and dimensional qualities of quilt-making.
Laurie believes that quilting makes the quilt. She calls her style of quilting—“quilting the hell out of it”—densely quilting almost the entire surface of each quilt. While Laurie didn’t come from a traditional quilting background, she does enjoy paying homage to this tradition, but in a very contemporary way.
Laurie is nomadic by nature and she currently resides in San Antonio, TX.
